Bachelor Feng Shui

Good FengShui Discard Rubbish

I recently visited the “home” of a group of young men.

Being fresh out of college, starting at the low end of the income scale, they are left with very little choice as far as selecting a place to live is concerned. Cost is their most important consideration. This one is no different. It is a compact single floor link house shared by four young bachelors.

Asked for my fengshui thoughts, I would say that there are many little things that can be done to make a “cheap joint” livable. All is never lost as far as feng shui goes. Many people get too caught up and jump and say things like bad fengshui direction or that the direction is not suitable for a certain horoscope or this or that. Not so accurate, really.

A place may not have the “correct” orientation. It may not have the “to mountain to face” configuration but that is not necessarily bad feng shui. Rooms are not in the auspicious sheng qi sector and so forth. Those who know will tell you that the beauty of feng shui is working with we have. And there are many solutions to fengshui problems. Drastic measures are just what the word means – they are used as a last resort.

Coming back to the house I mentioned earlier. There are a few things that can be done which will immediately make for better feng shui.

Throw away unwanted stuff

Yes, that is a good way to start. Bachelors (and bachelorettes) tend to like to keep things. Maybe it is a form of attachment but most of the time, it is just plain ‘no time’. Old cupboards, book cases even discarded mattresses are often chucked and left in the hall way or common area. These are no invitation for good fengshui.

Old worn out shoes are often a scatter all over. The entrance way is seen as a convenient place to leave our shoes. They are the first thing they see when they open the door. Shoe racks do not exist in the dictionary. So shoes serve as the valet greeting and welcoming all inauspicious, right at the front door.

Old newspapers and magazines clog the driveway, left to decay. Decay…decay…decay..

Unwanted stuff, what are they? They are rubbish and there is only one place deserving of rubbish – as far away from our living area as possible. The space then becomes a home and invites in good qi. And good qi works in strange ways. The message our living zone sends out is one of the most useful tool we can have to improve our chances out there.

We could use qi, kua and other feng shui terminology to explain how and why it works but what is simpler than just getting rid of all those rubbish. De-clutter is the way. And that goes for the rooms, the common areas as well as other unused areas.

Sense of Orderliness

Most bachelor rooms are but a place to sleep. They are often messy. It is understandable as work demands leave very little personal time. Much less for cleaning and tidying up. But then time is what we make of it. If we have time to breathe, we have time to tidy up.

A tidy fresh bedroom offers one great advantage. It allows our body and mind to heal. Most rooms lack ventilation, being locked up for a good part of the day. Body odors stay and accumulate. Soiled clothes adds on to this flavor.

Tidy up we must. This is good feng shui advice. There are other things to do for the room. Fresh looking walls and clean floors are a good start. Impromptu posters and other “decorations” on make shift hooks more often than not end up in bad taste. It is better not to have them. Unsightly floor rugs on display often adds to the ugliness. Go get clean ones. There is no point in choosing the ‘fengshui color’ when this neat aspect is overlooked.

And the bed too is very important. If the space is small and there is an en-suite bathroom , I would advise  sleeping off the floor. Which means a proper raised bed is ideal. I must emphasize the word “proper” That means a bed with a good mattress. If it is a queen size bed, get a fitting mattress. If not throw out the bed and get a suitable one.

Another point – sleep in the middle of the bed. The worst thing you can have is to have a single mattress on a queen size bed off centre. This one deserves special note. Expenditure is how you look at it. Don’t be penny wise pound foolish. Just like a good office chair saves you untold backache, a good mattress is likewise. Come to think of it, if one spends 8 hours on the office chair and 8 hours in our room, that is a big part of our life so why not make the best use of it?

Cobwebs must go

It is somewhat uncompassionate but cobwebs have to go. Clean them up and get the spiders to migrate outside and away.

Simple as these little fengshui thoughts are but they are effective. Beautifully, they are free and cost no money.
