According to the Sanyuan school of feng shui, the energy or luck of a building goes through cyclical changes.
For example, we are now in what is called the period of eight. This period of 8 began in 2004. Before that, it was the period of 7. Each period lasts 20 years.
One of the rules of the sanyuan school is what is called the recitation. This is based and derived from the Luo Shu magic square (the nine squares diagram with the 5 in the center). How this works is like this: in the flying star chart that is drawn, there are certain orientations that will produce charts that show the 5 in the central palace. When this happens, the chart is described as showing a recitation.
There are two types of recitation. The forward recitation and the reverse recitation. There are differences in the qualities of these two but what is more important is to know which orientation will produce this feature.
Let us look at 2 periods, the period of 7 and the period of 6 with the compass degrees are :
Period 6 south east – north west 292.5° – 337.5°
Period 7 east – west 247.5° – 292.5°
Before we go further, please note that even within the degrees bracket, there are variations which are rather complicated to go into in any great detail here.
But what is it about this recitation thing? According to the theory, it is a negative aspect and the portent for the building is not so good when this happens. For example, if the building is on an east west orientation and it was built between 1984 and 2003, then the energy of the building is weak. It is like one major ingredient for the full energy supply of the building is exhausted. It is out of luck as it were.
Is this really true? Yes, to some extent. It is by no means conclusive but from observations of buildings and homes in which the occupants have suffered decline and obstacles, there is some truth to this.
Having said that, it is on the side of caution to avoid such situations. Sometimes, wisdom is the better oart of valor.
But supposing, one is stuck with such a building, what is there to do?
All is not fully lost. Again, according to Sanyuan feng shui, the luck of the house can be changed by changing the period the house belongs. To do this requires rather major rebuilding and refurbishing which would include roofs, ceiling, walls and doors.
Refurbishing is indeed a heavy exercise and in the context of modern flats and apartments, it may not be entirely possible. For the stand alone houses or those on the ground, it is easier. At the very least, the advice would be to vacate the house, do major roof repairs, strip away the front and whatever aged walls and have a remake of the rooms. Take down the old doors and fix in a new one.
There are cases where simple renovations and repairs have been seen to work. In feng shui and in this case, feng shui cycles of time, what I can say is that time is relative too. Time moves in some areas but in another, time seem to stand still. Some areas move in tandem with the new waves whereas in another area, the buildings, the neighbourhood, the roads and everything along with it seems locked in a time capsule.
In places like the last one, it becomes very difficult. We could change but the effect cannot be felt because the area is infertile. This is quite an important consideration in feng shui study.
What more can one do in situations like these? The obvious is to move out. It is a tough thing to do but for some, of course, lethargy to change is the biggest obstacle.
