Where is the best place to place my purse when I am home?
“Which is my wealth corner?” The lady of the house looked at me quizzically.
More like a stare actually. Somehow I have the feeling that she knows exactly where that is, possibly someone has told her or she picked it off the net. With iPads, things are so easy nowadays. She felt she knew it all or so she thought.
I don’t know where this “wealth corner” came about or how it started. Probably it was coined recently. There is a Cantonese term “wealth area” so most likely someone with a dose of flair and imagination came up with this new term. I have certainly not come across this term in many of the pre 1900 prints.
In modern fengshui parlance, there is though such a thing as improving your chances at receiving wealth which some people equate that to getting rich. (There is a difference between receiving wealth and keeping it…) Why I say modern feng shui is because feng shui does not speak particularly about getting rich. The Chinese in general likes money but they also like harmony – wholistic harmony – which can only happen when all the accumulations of health, material wealth, successful and filial offsprings and so on are present. Seems the Chinese were into this wholistic business long before it became a new age catchword.
The eternal question – how do one get to tap this good stuff?
The most common is to look for that “corner” of the house and decorate it with all the trappings of wealth. As an extension (actually the other way round) is to determine your personal “corner” and do the same thing.
Another way is too simplistic and that is to put those things that are representative of your wealth is the north-east, south and north corners and with this your wealth is supposedly going to improve. To confuse you further, some will ask that you use the west, northwest but never the north. (Confused? Did somebody say that feng shui is meant to be simple?)
There can be various twists to the way that we can employ feng shui to work. For example in this consumer driven world, it is all about marketing and exposure. A strong brand sells simply because it is the brand that consumers recognize. The supplier has many supporters. Like politicians, good or bad, it doesn’t matter.
Likewise, if you have many people who like you and would go out of their way to help you, you can’t be that bad off. There will always be someone looking out for you. Call them guardian angels or whatever. The list below gives the areas in your home or office where you can place images of wealth or benevolent deities or simply make it your personal shrine. To find the area, just check out which Chinese animal zodiac you belong to and the direction given is the location of your “zone”.
For example, if you are born in the year of the snake, then it will be in the general direction of west but towards the southwest.
Tiger southeast of south, southwest of south
Rabbit east, west of southwest
Dragon north of northwest
Snake southwest of west, northwest of west
Horse southeast of south, north of northwest
Goat northeast of east
Monkey north of northwest, southeast of south
Cockerel south of southwest, east of northeast
Dog southeast of south
Boar northeast of east, southeast of east
Mouse northwest of north, south of southeast
Ox south of southwest
The Chinese love the three auspicious deities of blessings, nobility and longevity. These are the three gods in opulent robes holding a baby, gold and an old man holding a staff. They represent all the good things in life and with their eyes on you, life will be one of delightful surprises, expected and unexpected. Of course, they belong to mythology but then all things are possible.
