There are many side stories related to the characteristics of the twelve astrological animals. Here are some.
Rat – the rat is a creature of the night. It is the yin-est of yin.
Horse – the yang-est of yang. They are tough, swift of movement and beauty of gallop.
Cow – loving, caring and tough.
Goat – affectionateas seen from the way calves shown affection to their mothers.
Tiger – Yang, ferocious and alert.
Monkey – Sly and crafty.
Rabbit and Rooster - this one is interesting. Rabbits come out of their burrows during the ‘Mao’ hour which is 5-7 of dawn. Roosters sleep when the sun sets.
Dragon and Snake – Dragons signifies the rising sun. Both twists and turns as they frolic and play.
Dogs and Pig – They sleep when the sun is down. During these dark hours, the dog take watch duty while the pig snores…J
Fun to poke at our animal friends but in feng shui and astrology, they really do not bear that much significance. Those qualities we just saw should not be taken too seriously. But have fun!
