The financial world, they say, is a crocodile pit. Each, every and anyone who enters it is bound to get bitten. That is if they are lucky not to be swallowed whole and alive!
There are of course those who come out winners. And the trick seems to be to incorporate three simple principles. Ha! Some great secret is to be divulged here so don’t go away just yet. These three principles are mastery of Mind, Method and Management.
You will observe that Mind comes first. Mind is the foremost quality that is necessary if we are ever to succeed in beating anyone at any game. Right! What it means is that we have to understand our own psychology, our weaknesses, our strengths. We shape our attitudes and mind set in the best correct way for positive results. All of these will provide us the edge over our opponents.
Next comes Method. Method means the accumulation of knowledge, knowhow and skill to give us the edge when it comes to success. That’s why we go to school, college or whatever to get an education. We equip ourselves with the necessary qualifications so that we can go out there, earn a living and hopefully make mega bucks.
Management appears to be a very white collar word but in fact it isn’t. We ‘manage’ every moment of our life. Having a waste bin next to the sink to save work and mess is management. Coming up with the idea of having a bin and placing it is management. We are all managers.
Now, what has all this got to do with FengShui?
Look at the diagram of squares shown. There are two squares. The top one is one which all of us are familiar with. They call it the magic square. Fengshui people call it the Lo Shu or the Book of Lo.
The bottom square is a combination of numbers and represents the yearly diagram for this Tiger Year 2010.
These squares are an example of Method in Feng Shui. They are techniques to determine the qi energy which are in play. They are the method to help us work fengshui to our advantage. When we have this method, we can manage our feng shui. The world we live in is a stressful place and all that is happening seems so unpredictable. The traffic jams are predictable but it is always so common that a random traffic snarl happens just when we are in a rush for time. The stock traders may say that this is just the random walk theory in action.
Let’s look at the bottom magic square again. This simple diagram helps us sort out the noise from all this randomness that impinges on our lives. We use this square to identify which direction contains ‘bad’ energy (those kind that gives us bad surprises) and those directions that have ‘good’ energy ( those that gives us the edge).
Take an example. The number 5 on the top right corner of the grid is associated with malicious energy. It is a nasty fella and is associated with accidents, injury even death. Feng shui calls it the ‘Five Yellow’. Its location this year is at the southwest. Relative to our homes, it would be the southwest direction of the house. To locate this direction, we use the center of our house as the reference point. Another way is to think of our house as divided into nine squares, just like the diagram you see, and identify the southwest as ruled by this nasty fella.
Where the 5 sits, we do not undertake activities which will disturb it. Under this category would be heavy digging of the ground, loud banging of machinery, noise caused by tearing down walls, stuff like that. Another one worth mentioning is the incessant noise from the running of swimming pool or aquarium pumps.
This method is applicable to both the internal and external of the places where we live, work and play.
Skeptics will put this down to superstition but I know of cases where disasters have happened. Science may have a hard time explaining what is going on but for the time being, there seems no loss if we make use of methods to manage our lives. In fact it is wise to heed it. Doing so applies the Mind part of what we are talking about.
At the opposite end is the good energy number 8. There are also other good numbers as each number has their unique characteristics which we can manage to suit our needs. This number 8 is the most powerful number this year and it sits in the center. That means the center is a good area to work, play and gather. The only thing to remember is to keep this area in good, tidy, clean condition for all the good energy to manifest.
Mind, Method and Management-Feng Shui does not detract from these. Applicable Feng Shui comes from mastering them.
